WhatsApp Adds New Events Feature and Expands Group Video Calls

WhatsApp has started rolling out a new events feature for group chats. Initially, this feature was available only for Communities, but now it is being extended to regular group chats. The feature is available in the beta version 2.24.14.9 for Android.

The new update introduces an ‘Event’ icon in the paperclip menu within group chats. Users can create and manage events directly in their chat groups. Group members can view and respond to the event invitation, but only the event creator can modify the event details. All group events are protected by end-to-end encryption to ensure privacy and security.

WhatsApp has not provided a specific timeline for the global rollout of the Events feature, but users can join the beta program for early access.

In addition to the events feature, WhatsApp has increased the participant limit for group video calls from 8 to 32. This update is available for both mobile and desktop users, making it easier for larger groups to connect virtually.

WhatsApp is also introducing new AI-powered tools to enhance user experience. These tools include AI-powered chat functions and custom AI stickers, now available in a dozen countries. Businesses on WhatsApp can benefit from the new Meta Verified program, which helps them showcase their legitimacy and build trust with customers.
