During the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 clash against South Africa, West Indies surpassed Australia to become the team to hit the most sixes in a single edition of the ICC T20 World Cup. They hit a total of 62 sixes, breaking Australia’s record of 57 sixes set in 2010.

In the match, South Africa won the toss and chose to bowl first. West Indies struggled initially but an 81-run partnership between Kyle Mayers and Roston Chase helped them reach 135/8 in 20 overs. Tabraiz Shamsi was the standout bowler for South Africa with 3/27.

South Africa’s chase was interrupted by rain, setting a revised target of 123 runs in 17 overs. Despite losing early wickets, crucial contributions from Tristan Stubbs and Heinrich Klaasen kept them in the game. Marco Jansen and Kagiso Rabada finished the chase, securing a three-wicket win with five balls to spare.

With this victory, South Africa ended their Super Eights campaign undefeated, while West Indies were knocked out with one win and two losses.
