West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose Criticizes TMC Government’s Financial Management

New Delhi [India], August 5: West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose criticized the TMC government on Sunday, pointing out significant issues in the financial management of West Bengal and accusing it of diverting funds.

Speaking about his constitutional duty, Governor Bose said, “It is the Governor’s duty to oversee that the functioning of the government is within the constitution of India…I find that there are a lot of loopholes in the financial management of West Bengal. This is an opinion which stems directly from the analysis given by competent authorities like the Reserve Bank of India and the Comptroller and Auditor General…”

He further added, “I am sorry to say that there is a financial meltdown in West Bengal…Funds are diverted, funds which are meant for the amelioration of poverty are used for other purposes. There is an avoidable luxury in the government…I have asked for a white paper because I found a financial breakdown in the state…I want to see the factual position as far as the financial condition of a bankrupt state is…Constitutionally, the Governor is competent and it is the responsibility of the Governor to ask for information from the Chief Minister on any aspect of administration. It is mandatory for the CM to provide such information to the Governor…I will wait for it…”

Last month, Governor Bose described the Union Budget 2024-25 as pro-people and a golden opportunity for the Bengal government to utilize the funds allocated by the Centre effectively without diverting them for unauthorized purposes. He said, “This Union Budget has come up as a big boon for West Bengal. This is a pro-people budget…As far as Bengal is concerned, it is a youth-friendly budget…this budget is a golden opportunity…Bengal should utilize the funds given by the government of India through this budget effectively without diverting it for unauthorized purposes.”

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her record seventh consecutive Union Budget 2024-25 on July 23 during the Budget Session of Parliament.
