On Saturday, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose met with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi to discuss important national issues. The Governor emphasized the need for income-generating economic development programs for the fisheries sector.

Bose handed over a detailed action plan for the development of the fisheries sector to the Finance Minister for inclusion in the budget. This report was originally compiled by Bose as part of his role in the Government of India’s Labour Advisory Board.

The meeting also covered the emerging role of the Governor in the federal setup, with Bose proposing periodic monitoring of development projects in the state, especially those under centrally sponsored schemes. He aims to act as a watchdog on state finances and administration, as mandated by Article 167 of the Constitution of India.

Bose outlined his proposed actions for state governance and plans to send a critical financial analysis to the Chief Minister, requesting it be presented to the Council of Ministers. He also demanded a White paper on the state’s finances from the Government of West Bengal.
