West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose Criticizes Kolkata Police Over Hospital Vandalism

West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose has strongly criticized Kolkata Police, accusing a section of them of being politicized and criminalized. This came after he visited the emergency department of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where a mob had vandalized parts of the campus during a protest by doctors and students over the rape and murder of a female trainee doctor.

Governor Bose described the incident as shocking and a shame for Bengal, India, and humanity. He stated, “The custodians of law have themselves become conspirators. A section of the police is politicized and criminalized. This rot has to end…The government is responsible for this. The first responsibility lies with the government. We want security so that when you go to work at night you are safe…It is nothing but a bloodbath going on.”

Addressing the students, he assured them of justice and support, saying, “You will get justice, I have come here to listen to you personally. I am with you; we will fight out. We shall overcome.” He also promised fast action in the case and emphasized the need for a society where women can live happily.

When asked about the actions of the mob, Governor Bose said he would consult with the police and the students before taking action. Meanwhile, Kolkata Police clarified that the crime scene of the brutal rape and murder of the junior doctor had not been disturbed during the vandalism and warned against spreading unverified news.

On August 9, a post-graduate trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The victim’s family has alleged that she was raped and murdered, leading to nationwide protests by doctors and medical fraternities.
