West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose Visits RG Kar Medical College After Mob Vandalism

On Thursday, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose visited the emergency department of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. This visit followed an incident where a mob vandalized parts of the hospital campus during a protest by doctors and students. The protest was in response to the rape and murder of a female trainee doctor.

Governor Bose addressed the students, saying, “You will get justice, I have come here to listen to you personally. I am with you; we will fight out. We shall overcome.” He assured them that such incidents would not be tolerated in the state and promised fast action. “We will work together, I will devote myself to your service. This Bengal society should be made a society where a woman could live happily,” he added.

When asked about the mob’s actions, Governor Bose stated, “Let me go to the police and take stock of the situation. I will discuss it with you and get your opinion, and then only we will take action.”

Earlier, the Kolkata Police clarified that the crime scene of the brutal rape and murder of the junior doctor had not been disturbed during the mob vandalism. They warned against spreading unverified news and mentioned that legal action would be taken against those spreading rumors.

Anupam Roy, a final-year MBBS student from Kolkata, accused the mob of deliberate vandalism and called for public support to ensure a secure environment for doctors. The mob had entered the hospital campus on Wednesday night, vandalizing the protest site and attacking vehicles and public property, which led security officials to disperse them.

The incident, which occurred on August 9, involved the death of a post-graduate trainee doctor found in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The victim’s family has alleged that she was raped and murdered, sparking nationwide protests by doctors and medical fraternities.
