West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose and TMC Leader Kunal Ghosh Clash Over Oath Ceremony

In Kolkata, West Bengal, a dispute has arisen between West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose and Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kunal Ghosh. The conflict centers around the oath ceremony of two newly elected TMC MLAs, Reyat Hossain Sarkar and Sayantika Banerjee.

Governor’s Response

Governor Ananda Bose responded to Kunal Ghosh’s remarks about the ‘untold story of hotel Taj Palace’ by stating, ‘I will answer it after 4:00 pm that day.’ Ghosh had warned that if the MLAs were not sworn in by 3 pm on Monday, the ‘untold story’ would be revealed.

Speaker’s Statement

West Bengal Legislative Assembly Speaker Biman Bandyopadhyay expressed hope that the Governor would understand the situation and come to the assembly soon for the oath ceremony. He mentioned a previous instance when the former Governor, Jagdeep Dhankar, administered the oath to Mamata Banerjee after her by-election win.

MLAs’ Protest

Reyat Hossain Sarkar and Sayantika Banerjee, who won the bye-elections from Bhagwangola and Baranagar constituencies respectively, staged a sit-in protest after the Governor declined to administer the oath or delegate the responsibility to the Speaker. The results of the bye-elections were declared on June 5, with Sarkar receiving 107,096 votes and Banerjee receiving 69,251 votes.
