Water Leakage in New Delhi’s New Parliament Building After Heavy Rains
The Lok Sabha Secretariat reported that heavy rains in New Delhi caused minor water leakage in the Lobby of the new Parliament Building. The adhesive material used to fix the glass domes was slightly displaced, leading to the leakage. However, corrective measures were taken immediately, and no further leakage was noticed.
Additionally, water logging was observed near the Makar Dwar of the Parliament building, but it was quickly drained out. The Secretariat emphasized that the glass domes were installed to utilize natural light, aligning with the concept of a Green Parliament.
Congress MP Manickam Tagore raised concerns about the building’s weather resilience and proposed forming a committee to inspect the issue. Other opposition MPs, including Priyanka Chaturvedi of Shiv Sena (UBT) and Manoj Jha of RJD, also mentioned the leakage during discussions in the Rajya Sabha.
The new Parliament building was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in May last year.
