Waltair Division Uses Drones and Special Teams for Track Maintenance in Telangana

The Waltair Division in Telangana is taking new steps to keep train tracks and tunnels safe during the monsoon season. They are using drones and special hill maintenance teams to manage the rocky terrain in the Ananthgiri Hills.

Training for the Job

This summer, more than 20 staff members were trained at the National Institute of Mountaineering in Arunachal Pradesh. In October, 30 more staff from the Engineering, Traction, and Accident Relief Departments will also receive training.

New Equipment and Emergency Measures

To handle emergencies like boulders blocking the tracks, a new Track Material Relief train has been introduced at Shrungaravarapukota Station. This train has special machines to clear the tracks. Additionally, a new flying squad with hydraulic equipment has been posted at Araku to handle emergencies.

Emergency communication sockets have been installed at both ends of all tunnels and inside longer tunnels on the KK line. Trolleys and man refuge in tunnels now have retroreflective indicator boards to guide patrolling trackmen.

Importance of the KK Line

Divisional Railway Manager Saurabh Prasad said these measures are important to minimize disruptions and quickly restore operations on the KK line, which is crucial for transporting iron ore.
