Wall Collapse in Ujjain: Two Dead, Two Injured Due to Heavy Rain
In Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, a tragic incident occurred on Friday evening when a wall near Maharajwada School collapsed due to heavy rain. The collapse happened around 6:00 pm in front of Gate No. 4 of Mahakaleshwar Temple.
Officials reported that two people, Farheen (22) and Ajay Yogi (27), lost their lives, while Sharda Bai (40) and a three-year-old girl were injured. Rescue operations were promptly carried out by the police, State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF), and home guard teams.
Collector Neeraj Kumar Singh stated, “A wall near Maharajwada collapsed due to heavy rain in the district on Friday evening, trapping four people. All were rescued and sent to the district hospital. Unfortunately, two individuals, including a woman, have died, while two others have been injured and referred to Indore for further treatment.”
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed deep sorrow over the incident and announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the injured. In a post on X, CM Yadav wrote, “A very sad incident has happened in Ujjain where two local people died due to wall collapse near Maharajwada School. Senior officers have been instructed to ensure proper treatment to the injured. May Baba Mahakal give place to departed souls at His lotus feet and give strength to the bereaved family to bear this immense loss.”
He further added, “On behalf of the Madhya Pradesh government, instructions have been given to give financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured. I express my condolences to the bereaved families in this hour of grief.”
