Waheed Para on Jammu-Kashmir’s Path to Reclaiming Dignity and Identity
In Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, People’s Democratic Party leader Waheed Para expressed optimism about the revocation of the President’s rule in the region. He believes this marks the beginning of reclaiming what the people have lost over the past 6-7 years. Para emphasized that the people’s mandate is focused on restoring their dignity and identity.
Para stated, “People of Kashmir have voted for dignity. They have voted for the restoration of Article 370 and statehood. They have voted to restore the special status of Jammu and Kashmir which was robbed on August 5, 2019.” He hopes this is the start of a process to reclaim what has been lost.
The President’s rule was lifted on Sunday, paving the way for a new government after the recent assembly elections. The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification regarding this change. This development follows a meeting between National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, where Abdullah submitted letters of support for government formation.
NC President Farooq Abdullah stated that the new government’s primary goal is to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. The Congress, along with independents and the Aam Aadmi Party, has extended support to the National Conference, enabling them to form the government. This will be the first elected government since the abrogation of Article 370 and the reorganization of the state into Union Territories.
The elections for the 90 seats in the region were held in three phases, with results announced on October 8. The NC-Congress alliance secured 48 seats, with the NC winning 42 and Congress 6.
