Vladimir Putin Visits Mongolia for Historic Anniversary Celebration
Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Mongolia for an official visit, where he was greeted with a traditional welcome at Ulaanbaatar airport. The Russian leader’s plane landed on Monday and was met by a guard of honour in national dress and representatives of the Mongolian leadership.
Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh invited Putin to participate in ceremonies marking the 85th anniversary of the victory of Mongolian and Soviet troops over Japanese forces at the Khalkhin Gol river. During his two-day visit, Putin will hold bilateral meetings, sign documents, and lay flowers at a monument to Marshal of the Soviet Union Georgy Zhukov.
Putin’s visit to Mongolia comes after he cancelled a trip to the BRICS summit in South Africa due to legal obligations that could have led to his arrest. He has also visited North Korea, Vietnam, and China in the past year. Ahead of his visit to Mongolia, Putin met with school students in Kyzyl, Russia, where he spoke about military values and the importance of a new compulsory school course on security and defense.
