Vladimir Putin Proposes New Investment Platform at BRICS Summit

On October 23, in Kazan, Russia, President Vladimir Putin proposed the creation of a new investment platform for BRICS countries during the BRICS Summit. He emphasized the need for a low-emission economic model and suggested that the new platform would provide financial resources for countries in the Global South.

Currently, BRICS has two financial platforms: the New Development Bank, based in Shanghai, which funds infrastructure and sustainable development projects, and the Contingent Reserve Arrangement, which offers short-term liquidity support through currency swaps to stabilize financial situations.

Putin also noted that over 30 countries are interested in joining BRICS, highlighting the importance of balancing expansion with maintaining the group’s effectiveness. The summit will also address regional conflicts.

BRICS, originally formed by Russia, India, and China, began as a formal group in 2006 and held its first summit in 2009 in Yekaterinburg, Russia.
