Vivek Ramaswamy Criticizes Kamala Harris for Changing Her Identity

Indian-American Republican leader Vivek Ramaswamy has voiced his concerns about US Vice President Kamala Harris allegedly casting aside her Indian identity for political convenience. Ramaswamy, whose parents are from the same region in India as Harris’s mother, stated that many Indian Americans feel offended by Harris’s actions.

Speaking to Fox News, Ramaswamy said, “On a very personal level, my parents were immigrants to this country, legal immigrants from southern India, the very same part of India that her mother also immigrated from. I think it’s a hard fact, it’s just a fact whether you like it or not, that many Indian Americans in the United States are indeed somewhat offended by the way Kamala has suddenly cast aside the Indian American side of her identity.”

He added, “She leaned into it when she ran for office in California, big Asian American and Indian American population. So, she wore that when it was convenient. She’s wearing a different identity now when it’s politically convenient on a national stage.”

Ramaswamy also criticized Harris’s reliance on identity politics, stating that it opens the door to criticism and that her candidacy lacks vision for the US. He emphasized that elections should be decided based on a vision for the future of the country, not ethnic identities.

Former President Donald Trump also questioned Harris’s heritage, claiming she shifted from promoting her Indian heritage to identifying as Black. Trump made these comments at a gathering of journalists in Chicago, questioning Harris’s sudden change in identity.

Kamala Harris, whose mother is Indian and father is Jamaican, is the first woman of color and the first Asian American vice president. She responded to Trump’s remarks by emphasizing the need to focus on the future rather than the past, during a Houston fundraiser.

Harris stated, “In this moment, we face a choice, between two very different visions for our nation. One focused on the future, the other focused on the past. And we in this room, are fighting for the future.”
