Vishnu Vardhan and Vaidehee Chaudhari Shine on Day 1 of Fenesta Open Tennis Championship
Top seeds and former national champions Vishnu Vardhan and Vaidehee Chaudhari made a winning start in their respective categories on the opening day of the 29th Fenesta Open National Tennis Championship at the DLTA Complex in New Delhi.
Vishnu Vardhan’s Performance
Multiple Asian Games medallist Vishnu Vardhan from Telangana had a rough start against Haryana’s Udit Kamboj in the first round but eventually won the contest 7-5, 6-1 in straight sets. Udit’s quick movement and powerful forehands kept the score level at 5-5 in the first set, but Vishnu used his experience to win the next two games and then dominated the second set.
Vaidehee Chaudhari’s Performance
In the women’s singles category, 2022 Fenesta National champion Vaidehee Chaudhari from Gujarat made a positive start against Saily Thakkar, winning the first set 6-2 with a phenomenal cross-court forehand. Despite Saily’s fight in the second set, Vaidehee won it 6-4 to reach the second round.

Delhi’s Kashish Bhatia clinched an easy 6-0, 6-1 victory over Karnataka’s Soha Sadiq. Tamil Nadu’s Abhinav Sanjeev produced a big upset by beating third seed Ishaque Eqbal of West Bengal 6-1, 7-6 (5). Sixth seed Ranjeet VM of Tamil Nadu also won his match against Oges Prakash 6-0, 6-2.
Tournament Details
India’s largest domestic tennis tournament, supported by DCM Shriram Ltd. under the aegis of All India Tennis Association and Delhi Lawn Tennis Association, will see exciting talents from across the country. The winners will be awarded prize money with a total prize pool of over Rs 21.55 Lakh and Kit Allowance in the junior categories. The U16 and U14 singles events will also offer a Tennis scholarship of Rs25,000 each. Matches for these categories will be played from October 5 to October 12.
