Agartala (Tripura) [India], June 27: The administration of West Tripura, led by Vishal Kumar, District Magistrate and Collector of West Tripura, has launched a special initiative to combat smuggling and illegal activities involving commercial and personal vehicles.

Challenges in Identifying Vehicles

In an interview, Kumar explained the difficulties in identifying these vehicles. He noted that many vehicles, especially pick-up trucks, either lack number plates or have iron rods that obscure the plates, making them hard to read. “In 60-70 percent of the raids I have conducted, the number plates of these public carrier vehicles are unintelligible even upon close inspection,” he said.

Illegal Activities and Urgent Measures

These vehicles are often used for illegal activities like sand mining and wood theft, which is a major concern in Tripura. Kumar has urged the police and transport departments to identify and take strict action against such vehicles. “I have requested the police and transport departments to identify and take strict action against these vehicles if found involved in any illegal activity,” he emphasized.

Ensuring Safety and Law and Order

Kumar expressed confidence in the police and transport departments’ ability to tackle the issue, ensuring road safety and maintaining law and order in the state. “I hope the police and transport departments will take stringent measures to address this issue and ensure road safety and law and order in the state,” he stated.

The special drive aims to significantly reduce vehicle-related illegal activities, enhancing the safety and security of Tripura’s residents.
