Virat Kohli’s Heroic Performance in T20 World Cup Final Against South Africa
New Delhi, India – July 5: Before creating an unforgettable moment in his career, India’s star batter, Virat Kohli, revealed that he wasn’t confident about his performance in the T20 World Cup final in Barbados. Kohli had struggled throughout the tournament, scoring only 75 runs in seven matches at an average of 10.71, far below his usual standards.
However, in the final against South Africa, Kohli proved that ‘form is temporary and class is permanent.’ He scored a brilliant 76 off 59 deliveries, helping India reach a competitive total of 176/7. Kohli shared his thoughts during an interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, expressing how this day would always remain in his mind.
Before the final, head coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma had shown confidence in Kohli’s ability to deliver. Kohli started strong, hitting two fours in the first couple of deliveries. Despite India’s early setbacks, Kohli adapted to the situation and focused on what the team needed from him.
In the final overs, Kohli rotated the strike while Axar Patel took risks against the bowlers. India’s bowlers, including Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Arshdeep Singh, played crucial roles in defending the total. India won by 7 runs, ending a 13-year wait for an ICC World Cup trophy.
Kohli expressed his happiness in contributing to the team’s success and announced his retirement from T20I cricket, passing the baton to the next generation.
