Bridgetown [Barbados], June 30

In a thrilling final match of the ICC T20 World Cup, India’s star batter Virat Kohli delivered an outstanding performance, helping India secure a victory against South Africa at the Kensington Oval. Kohli, who had faced criticism for his earlier performances in the tournament, made a remarkable comeback in the championship match.

India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, had expressed confidence in Kohli before the match, predicting that the experienced player would overcome his struggles. Kohli did not disappoint, scoring 76 runs off 59 balls and earning the Player of the Match award. His steady innings, which included three boundaries in the first over, was crucial in helping India reach a total of 176/7.

After the match, Kohli announced his retirement from the T20I format. Rohit Sharma praised Kohli’s innings as ‘very crucial’ and commended his contributions to the team over the years. ‘Throughout the tournament, I think we were fantastic. Not me and nobody was in doubt with Virat’s form. We know the quality he has, he’s been on top of his game for 15 years, and come the occasion the big players will stand up,’ Rohit said during the post-match presentation.

Rohit also attributed the team’s success to the hard work and preparations made under the leadership of coach Rahul Dravid over the past three years. He acknowledged the pressure the team had faced and expressed relief at winning the title in Barbados. ‘Very hard to sum up what we have been through for the last 3-4 years. To be honest, we worked very hard as individuals and as a team, a lot has gone on behind the scenes for us to be here today and win this game,’ Rohit added.

Rohit concluded by expressing pride in the team’s efforts and the support from the management. ‘We wanted to win this, but I know to win a tournament like this, a lot goes behind the scenes. A lot of effort, a lot of minds need to come together, and I’m very, very proud of the bunch of boys that I have, and the management as well,’ he said.
