Bridgetown, Barbados – June 30: Star Indian cricketer Virat Kohli admitted he was not feeling very confident during his lean patch in the ICC T20 World Cup. However, with the help of excellent death bowling by Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya, and brilliant batting by Kohli and Axar Patel, India secured their second ICC T20 World Cup title by defeating South Africa by seven runs in a thrilling final.

Virat Kohli’s Emotional Post-Match Comments

After the game, during the post-match presentation, Virat Kohli said, “Just happy we were able to get the job done and really it is hard to explain the emotions I felt after the game. I knew what kind of mindset I was in. I was not very confident in the last few games. I was not feeling really good out there. But when God has to bless you with something he shows in ways that you cannot imagine and that is why I said I am grateful and humbled right now and I bow my head. It has been difficult and hence the emotions of the game went as well and the way we came back and the kind of character the guys showed it’s really difficult to hold things back. I think it’s going to sink in a little later, the emotions are going to come to the surface a little later more but it is just an amazing day and I could not be more thankful.”

Virat Kohli’s Performance and Retirement

Despite a slow start in the tournament, Kohli scored 76 runs in 59 balls in the final, helping India to a total of 176/7. He announced his retirement from T20Is following the win. Kohli ends his T20I career with 4,188 runs in 125 matches, including one century and 38 fifties.

Match Highlights

India won the toss and chose to bat first. After a shaky start, Kohli and Axar Patel’s partnership of 72 runs stabilized the innings. South Africa’s chase was thwarted by India’s bowlers, with Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya delivering crucial performances in the death overs. South Africa ended their innings at 169/8, falling short by seven runs.

India Ends ICC Trophy Drought

With this victory, India secured their first ICC title since the Champions Trophy in 2013. Virat Kohli was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his outstanding performance.
