Violence in Bangladesh: 135 Killed After Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Resigns
At least 135 people have been killed in Bangladesh due to violence following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation on August 5. The violence included police firings, mob beatings, and arson, according to local media reports.
Incidents Across the Country
In Sherpur District, a mob stormed the district jail and freed over 500 inmates. In Jessore, arsonists set fire to a residential hotel, killing eight people and injuring 84 others. In Khulna, three people, including local leaders, were beaten to death by a mob. In Naogaon, the residences of Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder and MP Mashrafe Bin Mortaza were vandalized and set on fire.
Protests and Looting
