In Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, a protest against the legality of a mosque turned violent, resulting in injuries to seven police officers. The police have filed cases against eight identified individuals and 200 unknown people. Serious charges have been imposed under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), including Section 109 for murderous attack and Section 121 (2) for causing serious injury to public servants.

Details of the Incident

The named individuals include Jitendra Chauhan, Sonu Negi, Suraj Dabral, Kulbir Rana, Sushil Sharma, Gautam Rawat, Alok Rawat, and Satendra Parmar. During the protest, organized by a Hindu group, the crowd broke through barricades and threw stones, leading to the injuries. Two officers were seriously hurt and have been transferred to a higher medical facility in Dehradun.

Efforts to Restore Peace

District Magistrate Meherban Singh Bisht stated that measures are being taken to restore peace. Section 163 has been imposed to maintain order, and the situation is gradually returning to normal. Schools and the Char Dham Yatra are operating smoothly. DM Bisht urged citizens to cooperate with the administration to ensure peace is fully restored.
