Violence at RG Kar Medical College: Abhishek Banerjee and Suvendu Adhikari React

New Delhi, India – On August 15, a violent mob vandalized the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee condemned the incident, stating, ‘The hooliganism and vandalism at RG Kar tonight have exceeded all acceptable limits.’

In a post on X, Banerjee urged the Kolkata Commissioner of Police to identify and arrest those responsible within 24 hours. He emphasized that the demands of the protesting doctors were fair and justified, and their safety must be prioritized.

On Wednesday night, a mob entered the hospital campus, vandalizing the protest site, vehicles, and public property. Security officials had to disperse the mob. Trainee doctor Hasan Mushtaq described how the mob, initially raising slogans outside the campus, turned violent and broke into the campus, forcing the doctors to flee for their safety.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of sending ‘goons’ to the rally to carry out the vandalism. He claimed that the police provided safe passage to these individuals, allowing them to destroy crucial evidence. Adhikari questioned why violence erupted only at RG Kar hospital despite peaceful protests across the state and called for intervention from the Bengal Governor and the CBI.
