Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the 50-kg wrestling final at the Paris Olympics for breaching the weight mark. Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president PT Usha confirmed that Vinesh is physically fine but mentally disappointed.

PT Usha met Vinesh at the medical centre of the Olympic Village in Paris. Vinesh was scheduled to compete against the United States’s Sarah Ann Hildebrandt in the Gold Medal match.

Speaking at a press conference, PT Usha expressed her shock and disappointment over Vinesh’s disqualification. She mentioned that the Indian support staff are working with Vinesh to help her reduce her weight.

Vinesh had reached the final after defeating Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman Lopez 5-0 in the semi-finals. Despite this setback, India still has hopes for medals in athletics. Currently, the Indian contingent has won three bronze medals in shooting at the Paris Olympics. India had opportunities for more medals but finished fourth in several events, including 10m air rifle, 25m pistol, skeet team, badminton singles, and mixed archery team events.
