New Delhi, India – August 7: Congress leader Deepender Singh Hooda expressed shock over wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification from the Paris Olympics. He questioned where things went wrong and if the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has raised the issue with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya stated that the IOA has lodged a strong protest with United World Wrestling (UWW) after Vinesh was disqualified for being overweight in the 50 kg category. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also consoled Vinesh, calling her a champion and urging her to come back stronger.

Vinesh was set to compete against Sarah Ann Hildebrandt from the United States in the Gold Medal match. Despite her disqualification, India continues to hope for medals in other events, with athletes like Avinash Sable, Mirabai Chanu, and Antim Panghal still in the competition.
