Vinay Kwatra Meets President Murmu, Vikram Misri Becomes New Foreign Secretary
Vinay Mohan Kwatra, the new Ambassador-designate of India to the United States, met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. Kwatra will be taking over from Taranjit Singh Sandhu.
Vikram Misri, who previously served as the Deputy National Security Adviser, has been appointed as India’s new Foreign Secretary. The Appointments Committee of Cabinet approved the Ministry of External Affairs’ proposal for Misri’s appointment. Misri’s tenure began on July 15, following the end of Kwatra’s extension on July 14.
Misri, 59, has a distinguished career, having served as private secretary to three Prime Ministers: Inder Kumar Gujral, Manmohan Singh, and Narendra Modi. He was also India’s ambassador to China and played a key role in discussions following the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar expressed gratitude to Vinay Kwatra for his dedication and contributions to foreign policy and national security. Jaishankar highlighted Kwatra’s role in strategizing and executing key policies over the last decade and wished him well in his future endeavors.
