Vijay Wadettiwar Criticizes CM Eknath Shinde’s Rs 11 Crore Reward to Indian Cricket Team
Nagpur (Maharashtra) [India], July 6: Maharashtra Assembly Leader of Opposition Vijay Wadettiwar has raised objections over Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s announcement of a substantial cash reward to the Indian cricket team. Wadettiwar believes the prize money should have been given to distressed farmers instead.
“In the last four months, 1,068 farmers have committed suicide. It would have been good had they given money to the distressed farmers. They gave such a huge sum to the Indian Cricket Team, what was the need? Team India played for the country and not themselves, this is why the streets were flooded to welcome them,” Wadettiwar said.
He further mentioned that Maharashtra is already under a debt of Rs 7.92 lakh crore and criticized the state government for spending another Rs 1 lakh crore on the Ladli Bahan Yojana. Wadettiwar also expressed concerns about the future of youth and the law and order situation in the state.
Chief Minister Shinde had announced a cash reward of Rs 11 crore for the Indian cricket team after they won the T20 World Cup. The announcement was made during a felicitation ceremony in the central hall of the Vidhan Bhavan, where four Mumbai players from the team were honored.
India ended a 13-year ICC World Cup trophy drought by defeating South Africa in the final. Virat Kohli’s 76 helped India reach 176/7, while Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling performances restricted South Africa to 169/8. Bumrah was named ‘Player of the Tournament’ for his outstanding performance throughout the tournament.
