New Delhi, India – Victoria’s Premier Jacinta Allan has highlighted the strong relationship between India and Australia, emphasizing shared values and priorities. In an interview, Allan expressed pride in welcoming the largest number of Indian international students to Victoria and Melbourne’s educational institutions.
Allan stated, “The relationship between India and Australia is incredibly strong. As the Premier of Victoria, we are proud to call the most number of Indian-born Australian residents home. This provides a strong foundation to strengthen economic and cultural ties between our nations.”
She also mentioned the importance of education in Victoria’s community and economy, and her desire to explore partnerships between Victorian and Indian educational institutions. Allan said, “Education is an incredibly important part of our community and economy in Victoria. We are proud to welcome the most number of international students, especially from India, to our institutions.”
Allan chose India for her first overseas visit as Premier, recalling her previous visit 15 years ago. She emphasized the shared values and focus on hard work and family between the two nations. Allan also mentioned Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s visit to India in 2023, underscoring the strong bond between the governments.
Discussing economic cooperation, Allan highlighted similar growth areas in both economies, such as renewable energy, housing, and transport connections. She stressed the importance of education in supporting these economic opportunities.

Jacinta Allan is Victoria’s 49th Premier, the longest-serving female minister in Australia’s history, and the longest-serving Labour Minister. This is her first overseas visit as Premier of Victoria.
