On Wednesday, Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, laid the foundation for the Meghalaya Skill and Innovation Hub in Shillong, Meghalaya. The event was attended by Meghalaya Governor C H Vijayashankar, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, and Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh. The hub, costing Rs. 77.5 crore, will be built on 6.54 acres in New Shillong to support youth with incubation, training, and industry partnerships.

Vice President Dhankhar praised Chief Minister Sangma for initiatives that nurture the state’s young talent. He highlighted the importance of skilling youth and mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has allocated Rs 60,000 crore for skilling 5 lakh youth over the next five years. Dhankhar emphasized that empowering youth will lead to economic growth.

Governor Vijayashankar spoke about Meghalaya’s rich resources and their potential to provide opportunities for the youth. Chief Minister Sangma noted that 85% of Meghalaya’s population is under 45, making youth the state’s greatest asset. The government supports entrepreneurship through programs like CM Elevate, offering training and financial subsidies to rural entrepreneurs.
