Dhankhar highlighted the government’s “Act East policy” and the media’s role in shaping national perception. He compared the Northeast’s beauty to New Zealand, Switzerland, and Scotland, noting significant advancements in connectivity, with airports doubling and waterways expanding twentyfold, attracting national investment.

He celebrated the recognition of Assamese as a classical language and pointed to the spiritual and ecological significance of sites like the Kamakhya temple and Kaziranga National Park. Drawing parallels with Kashmir, he noted a dramatic increase in tourism in Jammu and Kashmir, with over two crore visitors last year.

Dhankhar emphasized that tourism could transform the Northeast’s economy and drive employment growth. He called on the media to act as ambassadors for the region, fostering awareness of its opportunities. He stressed the need for responsible journalism, highlighting the media’s crucial role in democracy, especially during technological change.

He reminded the audience of the newspapers’ courage during the emergency, emphasizing the need for press freedom balanced with the duty to educate and enlighten the public.
