Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar Criticizes Rahul Gandhi’s Remarks on Reservation
New Delhi, India – Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed his disappointment over Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s recent comments on reservation during his visit to the US. Speaking to participants of the Rajya Sabha Internship Programme at Parliament House, Dhankhar emphasized the importance of representing India positively abroad.
Dhankhar stated, “Every Indian outside the country has to be an ambassador of this nation. How painful that one who holds a Constitutional position is doing just the reverse of it! Nothing can be more condemnable, despicable and intolerable than that you become part of enemies of the nation!”
He further added, “I am sure your heart must be bleeding at what you see. If we are true Bhartiyas, if we believe in our nation, we will never side with the enemies of the nation. We will all stand stiffly for the nation.”
Dhankhar highlighted the sacrifices made by many to secure and protect India’s freedom, stating, “Imagine, ultimate sacrifice has been given by how many to get this freedom, in protecting this freedom, in protecting the nation! Our brothers and sisters are also involved in combat positions. Mothers have lost their sons, and wives have lost their husbands.”
He accused some individuals of trying to divide the nation, calling it “ignorance in extremity.” He stressed the importance of the Constitution, which was created through extensive debate and discussion by the founding fathers.
On September 9, Rahul Gandhi mentioned that the Congress party would consider scrapping reservations when India becomes a “fair place.” He also emphasized the need for a caste census, pointing out the lack of representation for OBCs, Dalits, and Adivasis.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticized Gandhi’s statements, accusing him of supporting divisive forces. Shah assured that the BJP would not allow the abolition of reservations. Union Minister Piyush Goyal also condemned Gandhi’s remarks, accusing him of defaming India abroad and attacking PM Modi.
