Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar Urges States to Adopt National Education Policy
During the International Literacy Day celebrations at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar called on states that have not yet adopted the National Education Policy (NEP) to reconsider their stance. He described the NEP as a ‘game changer’ that values all languages and empowers youth.
Dhankhar emphasized the importance of literacy, stating, ‘Education is something that no thief can take away from you. No government can snatch it from you. Neither relatives nor friends can take it away from you.’ He expressed confidence that India could reclaim its ancient status as a center of learning if literacy is pursued passionately.
He urged everyone to make at least one person literate, highlighting the joy and happiness that comes from educating others. ‘It will be the greatest affirmative action you can take in human resource development,’ he said.
Dhankhar also spoke about India’s linguistic diversity, noting, ‘There is no country in the world like India. We are a unique nation when it comes to the richness of language with several languages.’ He shared his experiences as chairman of the Rajya Sabha, where members can speak in 22 languages.
He praised India’s progress over the last decade, including electrifying every household, rural development, and widespread digital connectivity. He urged people to guide those who tarnish the country’s institutions and recognize India’s impressive growth.
Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary and Department of School Education and Literacy Secretary Sanjay Kumar were also present at the event.
