New Delhi [India], August 15: Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh hoisted the flag at the University of Delhi on the occasion of the 78th Independence Day. He highlighted India’s significant progress over the past 77 years, noting that India has recently overtaken Britain to become the 5th largest economy.

Prof. Singh emphasized that India has advanced economically, politically, socially, and technologically. He stated that this year will be a milestone in making India a developed nation and strengthening its foundation.

In his address, Prof. Singh remembered the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for India’s independence. He explained the difference between independence and freedom, noting that while India became independent on August 15, 1947, the Constitution came into force on January 26, 1950.

He also mentioned the implementation of three new laws: Bhartiye Nyay Samhita 2023, Bhartiye Nagrik Suraksha 2023, and Bhartiye Sakshiye Adhiniyam 2023, which came into effect on July 1. Prof. Singh discussed India’s historical economic strength and the impact of British colonialism on Indian industries.

He expressed gratitude to Dr. BR Ambedkar for advocating a strong central system for India and called on everyone to contribute to the Viksit Bharat campaign to make India a developed nation by 2047.

During the ceremony, the Dean Ranking and principals of various colleges were honored for their excellent performance in the NIRF Ranking 2024. The event also featured a parade by NCC cadets and patriotic songs by students from the Department of Music and Fine Arts.

Key attendees included the Director of South Delhi Campus Prof. Prakash Singh, Dean of Colleges Prof. Balaram Pani, Director of SOL Prof. Payal Mago, Registrar Dr. Vikas Gupta, along with deans, heads of departments, officers, teachers, staff, and many students.
