Vibodh Gupta Optimistic About BJP’s Historic Win in Rajouri Assembly Seat

Rajouri (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], September 3: As Jammu and Kashmir prepares for assembly elections after a decade, Vibodh Gupta, the BJP candidate from the Rajouri Assembly seat, is hopeful about securing a victory. He described a potential win as a ‘historic moment’ for the party.

Gupta stated, ‘It will be a historic moment after 1947 when the BJP will win Rajouri Vidhan Sabha seat.’ The Rajouri Assembly seat has traditionally seen a close contest between the National Conference (NC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In 2014, Qamar Hussain from PDP won, while in 2008, Shabbir Ahmed Khan from NC secured the seat.

Gupta criticized the National Conference, accusing them of hindering the tourism industry and opposing youth embracing the national flag. He expressed gratitude to the BJP leadership for selecting him as their candidate, saying, ‘I am grateful to the top leadership of BJP for choosing me as their candidate from the Rajouri Assembly seat. The people of Rajouri have always given their love to me.’

He further criticized the NC’s manifesto, claiming it aims to bring back Article 370, Article 35A, and create unrest. Gupta emphasized that after August 5, 2019, separatism and stone-pelting have ended in Kashmir.

Earlier, the BJP released its fourth list of candidates for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, including Ravinder Raina from Nowshera, Arif Raja from Eidgah, Er. Aijaz Hussain from Lal Chowk, Dr. Ali Mohammad Mir from Khansahib, Zahid Hussain from Chrar-i-Sharif, and Vibodh Gupta from Rajouri (ST).

On August 27, the BJP issued its third list of 29 candidates for the second and third phases of the upcoming elections. This included Murtaza Khan from Mendhar, Sunil Bhardwaj from Ramnagar (SC), Chowdhary Abdul Ghani from Poonch Haveli, Pawan Gupta from Udhampur West, Mohd Iqbal Malik from Thannamandi, and Baldev Raj Sharma from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi.

Jammu and Kashmir has 90 assembly constituencies, with 7 seats reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and 9 for Scheduled Tribes (STs). According to the Election Commission of India, there are 88.06 lakh eligible voters in the region. In the previous elections, PDP won 28 seats, BJP secured 25, NC won 15, and Congress won 12.
