Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro Bans Social Media Platform X Amid Election Dispute
Caracas, Venezuela – President Nicolas Maduro has ordered a 10-day ban on the social media platform X, accusing its owner Elon Musk of inciting hate and fascism. This decision comes as Venezuela faces widespread outrage over disputed election results.
Maduro, who was declared the winner of the July 28 election with 51.2% of the votes, has faced accusations of fraud. Opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, who was leading in opinion polls, reportedly received 44.2% of the votes. The lack of detailed results has fueled protests both within Venezuela and abroad, with many demanding Maduro step down in favor of Gonzalez.
In response to the controversy, the foreign ministers of Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico have called for the National Electoral Council to publish the vote tallies. The opposition claims to have evidence showing they won the election with over 7 million votes compared to Maduro’s 3.3 million.
