VD Satheesan Criticizes Kerala Government for Ignoring Sea Erosion Issues

VD Satheesan, the Leader of Opposition in the Kerala Assembly, has accused the Left government of failing to address sea erosion that is severely impacting fishing communities. During a visit to Edavanakad coastal village in Ernakulam, Satheesan, accompanied by Congress MP Hibi Eden, observed the damage caused by sea erosion.

Satheesan stated, “During the monsoon and all other seasons, aggressive sea erosion is happening in the state. So many houses have been lost and people are in trouble.” He highlighted that roads have been washed away, and poor fishermen are struggling to survive as their homes and livelihoods are destroyed.

The Congress leader criticized the state government for making empty promises and not implementing any measures to protect the coastal areas. He mentioned that the Kerala Fisheries Minister had promised packages for the coastal areas, but no action has been taken.

Satheesan also pointed out that the Arabian Sea has become increasingly turbulent, possibly due to climate change, further exacerbating the plight of the fishing community. He emphasized the need for immediate protection and support for these communities.

Additionally, Satheesan revealed that Congress MP Hibi Eden received a response in Parliament stating that the state government had not submitted any projects for containing sea erosion, which is surprising given the urgent need for financial assistance from the central government.
