VD Satheesan Accuses Kerala Government of Misusing Police Before Palakkad By-Election

In Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, Congress leader VD Satheesan has raised concerns ahead of the Palakkad assembly by-election. He wrote to the Election Commission of India (ECI), accusing the Kerala government, led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)], of misusing police powers. Satheesan highlighted the absence of female officers during searches of women Congress leaders’ rooms.

Satheesan urged Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar to address these issues to ensure fair elections. He claimed the CPI(M) government is undermining the election process and called for urgent corrective measures. The letter emphasized the need for the Election Commission to prevent further police misconduct and ensure fair elections.

Satheesan described the police raid as “scripted” and “pre-planned,” noting that officers were in plain clothes without identification. He mentioned that female officers were only dispatched after Congress leader Shanimol Usman demanded their presence. The police did not follow the procedures outlined in the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) for searches.
