VD Chafekar Appointed as Executive Director of ReCAAP ISC

VD Chafekar, a retired Additional Director General of the Indian Coast Guard, has been appointed as the seventh Executive Director of the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia Information Sharing Centre (ReCAAP ISC) in Singapore. His term will run from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2028.

India’s Commitment to Maritime Security

The Ministry of Defence highlighted that Chafekar’s appointment reflects India’s dedication to enhancing regional maritime security and cooperation, aligning with the vision for a safer Indo-Pacific region. The appointment was made by the Governing Council of ReCAAP ISC.

International Support and Congratulations

The Ministry of External Affairs expressed pride in Chafekar’s election, which was contested by candidates from China and the Philippines. Singapore’s High Commissioner to India, Simon Wong, also congratulated Chafekar on his new role.

About ReCAAP ISC

Established in 2006, ReCAAP ISC is the first regional government-to-government agreement aimed at combating piracy and armed robbery at sea in Asia. It plays a crucial role in information sharing, capacity building, and collaborative efforts to address maritime security challenges. India, as a key contracting party, has been a strong supporter of ReCAAP ISC’s mission.
