New Delhi, India – Indian women’s hockey forward Vandana Katariya is hopeful about her team’s performance in the upcoming Women’s Asian Champions Trophy. Speaking at the Hockey India Senior Women Inter-Departmental National Championship 2024, Vandana praised the young players’ improvement and expressed confidence in defending their title. The tournament will be held in Rajgir, Bihar, from November 11 to 20, with India competing against teams like China, Japan, and South Korea.
Vandana also shared her excitement about the return of the Hockey India League (HIL), which she believes will provide a platform for young talent to shine. The league, featuring 8 men’s and 6 women’s teams, will start on December 28, with matches in Ranchi and Rourkela. Vandana, who was signed by Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers for Rs 10.5 lakh, sees the league as a step towards improving players’ skills and hopes it will lead to Olympic success.
In the recent inter-departmental championship, Vandana’s team, Railway Sports Promotion Board, won 3-1 against IndianOil Ltd. Vandana scored a crucial goal, with Navneet Kaur and Salima Tete securing the victory. The team focused on playing good hockey, which led to their success.
