Uttarakhand’s Chief Secretary Radha Raturi Leads Water Conservation Efforts
Chief Secretary Radha Raturi of Uttarakhand praised the efforts of the State Level Spring and River Rejuvenation Authority (SARRA) in water conservation. She highlighted the identification of critical drying water sources and tributary rivers for treatment under the Jal Sanrakshan Abhiyan 2024.
In a meeting with water department authorities, Raturi commended the work being done through various programs like Catch the Rain, Jal Sanrakshan Abhiyan, Amrit Sarovar, and Harela. She mentioned that 78 critical water sources have been identified by the Drinking Water Corporation and 415 by the Jan Sansthan. A total of 250 tributary rivers/streams have been identified for treatment in various districts.
Under the Jal Sanrakshan Abhiyan 2024, the target is to conduct water supply activities in the treatment area of 4,658 water sources at the village level, 770 critical drying water sources at the development block level, and 228 tributary rivers/streams at the district level, totaling 5,428 water sources.
Raturi also informed about the creation of a water conservation app and dashboard for monitoring activities. Recharge shafts are proposed in Dehradun, Haridwar, and Haldwani to enhance groundwater levels, with technical support from the Central Ground Water Board, Dehradun.
