Uttarakhand Residents Celebrate Independence Day at Red Fort

On August 15, 20 people from the hilly areas of Uttarakhand, who live in Delhi, dressed in their traditional mountain attire and participated in a cultural program at the Red Fort in New Delhi. This event was organized to celebrate the 78th Independence Day of India.

The residents were invited by the Uttarakhand Resident Commissioner’s Office. They expressed pride and excitement in representing their culture on such a significant occasion.

Governor’s Address

Earlier in the day, Uttarakhand’s Governor, Lt General Gurmeet Singh, hoisted the national flag at the Raj Bhavan. He paid tribute to freedom fighters and congratulated everyone on Independence Day. The Governor highlighted the potential and rapid development of India in the 21st century, emphasizing Uttarakhand’s progress in technology, AI, space, cyber, quantum, robotics, and science.

Chief Minister’s Announcements

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also hoisted the flag and celebrated the day. He recalled Prime Minister’s statement that the third decade of the 21st century would belong to Uttarakhand. Dhami announced several new schemes to boost the state’s development, including:

  • Developing one local body in each district as a model body
  • Increasing the pension scheme amount from Rs. 4000 to Rs. 6000
  • Connecting youth with skill development schemes
  • Developing a welfare scheme for senior citizens
