Uttarakhand Police Warns Residents as Pindar River Water Level Rises

Chamoli (Uttarakhand) [India], July 5: Uttarakhand Police have issued an alert for people living near the Pindar River due to a significant rise in water levels caused by heavy rainfall. The police have asked residents to stay on ‘alert mode’ and report any emergencies by dialing 112.

In a social media post, Chamoli Police stated, ‘Due to continuous rain in the district, the water level of the Pindar river is rising and the velocity of the water is high. Chamoli Police appeals to the people living on the river banks to please be alert and inform about any emergency on dial 112.’

Earlier, about 8-9 km ahead of Gangotri on the Gomukh footpath, 30-40 pilgrims were stranded and two were washed away when a temporary bridge collapsed due to a sudden increase in water flow in a river at Devgad. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rescued 16 pilgrims, and the rescue operation for others is ongoing.

Additionally, the SDRF rescued 10 youngsters stranded on an island near Robbers Cave in Dehradun. The rescue team, led by sub-inspector Laxmi Rawat, used ropes to bring the trapped individuals to safety.

Heavy rainfall has also caused the Ganga River’s water level to rise, flooding roads and submerging vehicles. Local authorities have advised against bathing in the river due to hazardous conditions.
