Uttarakhand Police Chief Abhinav Kumar Orders More Foot Patrols to Keep State Safe

Uttarakhand’s Director General of Police (DGP), Abhinav Kumar, has issued new directives to increase foot patrols across the state. The goal is to prevent crime and strengthen law enforcement, creating a secure environment and boosting public confidence in safety measures.

Key Directives

According to an official release from the Chief Minister’s Office, DGP Abhinav Kumar emphasized the importance of effective foot patrolling to establish a sense of security among citizens. He highlighted that criminal activities often increase at night, leading to incidents like theft, robbery, and misbehavior with women, which negatively impact the public.

Night Patrols

To combat these issues, Kumar instructed that police activity should be heightened at night. He directed district in-charges to identify and map crime hotspots, ensuring effective patrolling and checking in these areas. Sensitive locations such as major crossings, markets, shopping malls, bus stands, railway stations, and parks should be patrolled daily.

Additional Measures

The DGP also called for the deployment of sufficient patrolling vehicles on sensitive routes and the installation of police pickets and CCTV cameras at important places. He mandated that one Circle Officer be on night patrol duty every day, supervised by the additional superintendent of police.

Disciplinary Actions

Kumar warned that police personnel found absent or careless during night patrols would face disciplinary action. He also instructed gazetted officers and station heads to conduct foot patrols for at least one hour in crowded areas each evening.

Community Engagement

During patrols, officers are to check habitual criminals and suspicious individuals, especially around schools, colleges, and industrial areas. They are also encouraged to engage with the public to create a sense of security and gather important information.
