Uttarakhand Police and BRO Clear Landslide Debris on Gangotri and Badrinath Highways

On July 29, the Border Road Organisation (BRO) and Uttarakhand police successfully cleared the Gangotri National Highway near Netala, Helgugadh, and Sungar, which had been blocked by landslides and debris. The Uttarakhand Police announced on social media platform X that the highway is now open for traffic.

Efforts are still ongoing to clear the highway near Bishanpur, where landslides have also caused blockages. BRO machinery is actively working to clear the road.

Earlier, on July 27, the strong current of the Bhagirathi river at Gangotri Dham washed away the gate of the Shivanand Kutir Ashram and damaged its security wall. Sadhus and laborers were trapped inside the Ashram. Police and SDRF personnel rescued 10 individuals by entering the Ashram from the hill behind it.

In another incident on July 27, rescue personnel recovered the body of a woman who was buried under debris from a landslide in Ghansali. The woman and her daughter were trapped when their home collapsed due to heavy rain in the village of Toli.

Additionally, on July 25, the Uttarakhand police cleared debris near Gulabkoti in the Joshimath area on the Badrinath National Highway. The road had been closed due to falling boulders and debris caused by continuous rain in the Chamoli district.

Heavy rain in parts of Uttarakhand over the past few days has triggered multiple landslides, blocking highways at several points.
