Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Plans New Centers for Technical Education
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, during a review meeting at the Secretariat, directed the establishment of Centers of Excellence in Garhwal and Kumaon to promote technical education. He emphasized the importance of ensuring maximum campus placements for students from government technical institutes.
Dhami stressed the need for modern courses and equipment in technical institutes to meet industrial requirements. He also called for clear data on the employment and higher education outcomes of students from these institutes.
The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of providing adequate employment opportunities within the state to prevent youth from seeking jobs elsewhere. He also mentioned the need for skill development training in areas like plumbing, electrical work, and welding.
In the meeting, it was revealed that 6,490 youth gained employment or self-employment through polytechnics in the last three years. Additionally, 369 youth found jobs in the government sector, and 552 youth benefited from the community development scheme.
Dhami announced plans to establish virtual labs and provide training in government polytechnic institutes with the help of IIT Roorkee. A State Career Counseling Center will also be set up to link unemployed youth to business opportunities by developing polytechnic institutes as service providers.
