Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Thanks PM Modi for Rabi Crops MSP Increase

On Wednesday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the Union cabinet decided to increase the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rabi crops for the 2025-26 marketing season. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, led by PM Modi, approved this increase to ensure farmers receive fair prices for their produce.

Chief Minister Dhami described the decision as a Diwali gift for farmers, highlighting its potential to boost economic progress, prosperity, and self-reliance among farmers, thereby accelerating agricultural development. The government has announced the highest MSP increase for Rapeseed and Mustard at Rs 300 per quintal, followed by Lentil (Masur) at Rs 275 per quintal.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the decision after the Cabinet meeting. Other increases include Rs 210 per quintal for gram, Rs 150 per quintal for wheat, Rs 140 per quintal for safflower, and Rs 130 per quintal for barley. This increase aligns with the Union Budget 2018-19’s goal of setting MSP at least 1.5 times the All-India weighted average cost of production.

The expected margin over the cost of production is 105% for wheat, 98% for rapeseed and mustard, 89% for lentil, 60% for gram, 60% for barley, and 50% for safflower. This move aims to ensure fair prices for farmers and encourage crop diversification.
