Uttarakhand CM Honors Fallen Soldier Narayan Singh

On October 3, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami paid tribute to Narayan Singh, a soldier whose remains were found after 56 years. Singh was one of four soldiers recovered from the wreckage of an AN-12 aircraft that crashed in 1968 in Himachal Pradesh. The aircraft, belonging to the Indian Air Force, was on a routine flight from Chandigarh to Leh with 102 Army personnel when it crashed in the Lahaul valley.

Chief Minister Dhami expressed his respect on social media, stating, “May Narayan Singh remain immortal.” He praised Singh as a brave soldier from Uttarakhand, whose story of sacrifice has once again touched hearts. Dhami emphasized that Singh’s dedication to serving India is a source of inspiration.

The remains of soldiers Malkhan Singh, Sipahi Narain Singh, Sipahi Munshi Ram, and Thomas Cherian were also found. This discovery is part of ongoing efforts to recover those lost in the tragic 1968 crash, one of the most significant in Indian military aviation history. The aircraft crashed due to severe weather, and many bodies remained lost in the snow-covered mountains.
