Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Takes Action on Land Misuse and Promotes Uniform Civil Code

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], September 27: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced on Friday that strict action will be taken against individuals who have bought multiple plots of land in their family’s name, which do not align with the intended purpose of the law. These lands will be vested to the Uttarakhand government.

CM Dhami explained, “In Uttarakhand, there is a law that allows anyone to buy 250 square meters of land outside the municipal corporation area without permission. However, it has come to our notice that many people have misused this provision. We are preparing a report on such lands and will take strict action.”

He also mentioned that changes made to the law in 2017 have not yielded positive results and will be reviewed.

Progress on Uniform Civil Code

CM Dhami highlighted the government’s rapid progress on implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). “We are getting positive results in every field. A lot of work has been done on the UCC, and we are working quickly to bring that Bill into effect,” he said.

He also noted that 17,000 recruitments have been conducted transparently without any cheating.

Ban on Outsiders Buying Agricultural Land

Earlier this year, the Uttarakhand government imposed an interim ban on outsiders purchasing land for agriculture and horticulture. This decision was made to prevent misuse and protect the interests of hill residents.

A five-member drafting committee, chaired by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Radha Raturi, is reviewing land laws to ensure proper use and prevent the construction of resorts or personal bungalows on farmland, which has been making hill residents landless.
