Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Announces New Anti-Riot Law

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that Governor Gurmit Singh has approved the Uttarakhand Public and Private Property Damage Recovery Bill 2024. This new law aims to keep the state peaceful by making sure that anyone who causes riots or damages property will have to pay for the damages.

CM Dhami said, “The Governor has given his approval to the anti-riot law which was passed in the last assembly session. After the implementation of the anti-riot law, whoever causes riots in the state, damages government property or private property, every penny of that will be compensated by the same person. The purpose of bringing this is that our state is peaceful. There is no place for riots, vandalism and disturbance here.”

Earlier, CM Dhami expressed his gratitude to the Governor for approving the law. He mentioned that the expenses incurred by government staff during riot control will also be reimbursed. Dhami emphasized that no one is allowed to disturb the peace in Devbhoomi Uttarakhand and that this law will be strictly followed.

In March, CM Dhami’s government approved a stringent law to provide compensation for losses caused during riots. The Cabinet also approved the formation of a special tribunal to curb riots and unrest. After implementing the country’s strictest anti-copying law and passing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill, CM Dhami’s cabinet passed this new law to stop riots and deal with rioters.
