Uttarakhand CM Dhami Releases Book on Silkyara Tunnel Rescue Operation
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has released a book titled ‘Wo 17 Din’, which recounts the 17-day rescue operation of 41 workers trapped inside the Silkyara tunnel. The book, authored by Rajiv Ranjan Singh, provides a detailed account of the challenges and efforts involved in the rescue.
The Incident
On November 12 last year, a section of the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarkashi district collapsed, trapping 41 workers. These workers were from various states including Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, and Assam.
The Rescue Operation
The rescue operation, which lasted 17 days, was closely monitored by CM Dhami and guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Rat-hole miners from Uttar Pradesh played a crucial role when heavy machinery failed. Rat-hole mining involves digging small tunnels to reach trapped individuals. The rescue team, led by Vakeel Hasan, successfully extracted all workers without any injuries.
International Expertise
The operation also involved Australian tunnel experts Arnold Dix and Chris Cooper, along with various state and central government agencies.
CM Dhami praised the book for its positivity and congratulated the author, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, for his work.
