Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Radha Raturi Approves Canal-Covering Project in Nainital

Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], September 2: Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Radha Raturi has approved a proposal to construct an 8.2 km long canal-covering from Panchakki Square to Kamaluwaganja in Kaladhungi town, Nainital. This decision was made during a meeting of the Expenditure Finance Committee held at the state secretariat.

The project aims to benefit the people of Chauphala, Kathgharia, Kamaluwaganja, Ghuni, Bhagwanpur, and Ramni by increasing the width of the road through the covering and strengthening of the canal. The Chief Secretary emphasized the importance of completing the work on time while maintaining high construction quality.

The project, which costs Rs 1245.64 lakh, is expected to be completed within a year. Special attention will be given to groundwater recharge and plantation during the construction. The road, once widened, will serve as a two-lane bypass, facilitating travel from Nainital to Delhi or Dehradun via Bajpur or Ramnagar, Corbett National Park, and reducing traffic congestion in Haldwani city.

Senior officials from the Public Works Department and Irrigation Department were also present at the meeting.
